EV Charging hubs
Electric Vehicle Charging Hub concept
The transition to electric vehicles is accelerating across the UK. With the government committed to a target of net-zero emissions for vehicles by 2035, the number of EVs on the road grows daily. Alongside that growth comes a practical challenge: accessible, safe and reliable places to recharge.
This video presents an innovative idea developed within Ronella’s Research and Development thinking – a new concept for high-speed undercover EV charging hubs. The idea was born from observing the limitations of many existing charging locations, which are often positioned in poorly lit car parks, difficult to reach and not designed with inclusivity in mind, particularly for wheelchair users.
Although Ronella is not currently actioning this project, our team has explored how such hubs could be designed to deliver a far better user experience. Drivers would be able to remain in their vehicles while charging, benefit from helpful live information displays, and, if they choose to enter the hub, enjoy clean, welcoming facilities aimed at wellbeing and convenience.
Crucially, the concept also considers the wider impact on the energy network. By powering hubs with on-site wind and solar generation, the idea aims to minimise pressure on the National Grid while providing users with security of supply at competitive rates.
Ronella believes this concept has genuine commercial potential and could be brought to market in the future by the right strategic partners. The video is shared as an example of forward-looking R&D – demonstrating how smarter infrastructure ideas can support the UK’s evolving electric vehicle landscape.
